Observing the Hilal - Views of the four Imams and other scholars

All Imams have given verdict that the sighting of the moon at one place on Earth will be applicable for all those who get the information irrespective of the distance between them. The fasting would become compulsory and the rising of the moon at different places shall not be considered.

Imam Shafy ® opined that the seeing of the west will not bind on the east. Here he makes us understand that there is a boundary for the West and East - i.e. the people facing Qibla towards West and East. This defines the rule that the West should observe Friday while the East observe Thursday at the boundary. Observing first of Shawwal on two or three days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) as it is done now is contrary to the views of all the Imams. For further details see Articles.
